The Power of a Great Follow-Up


Hi,

Let me tell you a quick story. A few months ago we had a flyer through the door for rubbish collection, nothing fancy, just a simple printout. But, as it happened, we were about to get a new sofa and needed the old one gone. My husband sent them an email.

Fast forward three months, and we finally got a reply…

“Hi, sorry, we don’t really check this inbox.”

😬 Ouch. That flyer was delivered at exactly the right time. We were ready to book. But the follow-up (or complete lack of one) meant they lost the job.

It’s an extreme example, but it’s a good reminder that a great marketing campaign can fall flat without a proper follow-up.

Whether it’s:

🔹 A flyer through the door

🔹 A social media ad

🔹 An event or giveaway

🔹 A product launch

🔹 A new service offer

Make sure the next steps are crystal clear. Is someone checking the inbox? Are your contact forms working? Are your DMs being answered?

And once the job is done — follow up again.

🔹 Ask for a review (especially if you know they were happy)

🔹 Share useful aftercare advice

🔹 Check in a month later to see how they’re getting on


A strong follow-up can turn a campaign from good to great.

Here are a few more quick examples:

✔️ A hairdresser who checks in a week after a colour to see how it’s settling and includes aftercare advice.

✔️ A builder who sends a thank you and asks for photos once a client has styled the room.

✔️ A wedding business who asks for a testimonial and a photo from the big day.

✔️ A product-based business who emails with a quick “How are you getting on with it?” and a 10% offer for their next order.

Marketing doesn’t end when someone clicks “buy” or says “yes”, that’s just the start.
